On 11/12 June 2026, the Tilburg Law and Economics Center organizes a Policy Workshop, which has two parts: on Thursday afternoon, a row of senior academics from economics, law, and political science will give research talks related to the topic “Economics, Governance, and Technology.”
On Friday morning, the angle changes and we will experiment with a new format: we will not discuss latest substantive research findings but bring together senior researchers who all have accumulated experience in advising policy makers and regulators at the EU- or nation-state levels, to exchange best-practices, and to think jointly how we can be more effective in helping decision makers in their difficult tasks. As individuals? In small groups or larger research institutes? Via academic associations? Or better not at all?
A keynote address will be given by Martijn Snoep (Chairman of Dutch competition authority ACM). Together with representatives of the European Commission, he represents the demand side of academic advisory activities, allowing thorough exchange about what works (not), when and why. There will be several formats of talks, shorter statements, and panel discussions, all complemented by a lot of public discussion, both in the sessions and breaks.
Both parts of the workshop, fundamental research and policy-oriented work, will be brought together in the inaugural lecture of Jens Prüfer as Professor of Economics, Governance, and Technology in the Aula of Tilburg University at 4 pm on Friday.
