The European Commission recently held a large conference on the Digital Services Act (DSA), where they gathered perspectives on this monumental piece of legislation, the sister of the Digital Markets Act. One of the sessions asked: “What are the implications of the EU’s new social media rules for the rest of the world?” As envoy of the EU Observatory on the Online Platform Economy, I participated in the roundtable alongside delegates from the UN, UNESCO, LIRNEasia (a Sri Lankan think tank), and the EU’s “ambassador” to Silicon Valley.
